Description
Small, 10 inch high vase / bottle. Stoneware vase with decoration drawn from life amid forest location at or Fremont, Indiana studio. The technique used for the design was a version of ‘mishima.’ When the bottle is “leather-hard” the drawing is incised with a wooden stylus. While most often, with mishima technique, a contrasting slip is driven into the engraved lines at this leather-hard stage. Here the clay was let to dry and fired to bisque, a white glaze as forced into the lines and excess removed. The pot was then glaze fired to cone 6 (2232º F) leaving a subtile contrast between the image and the surface of the pot. See mishima technique Don’t see Yokio Mishima. But if you do I would recommend The Temple of the Golden Pavilion.
